I first started this website by posting about a Game Boy Color restoration. After that I ended up coming across another Atomic Purple Game Boy Color that needed some work and decided to install an IPS Backlit display in it. At the time it was the best screen available for the Game Boy Color and it fixed the biggest issue the console had since it released, no backlit display. The original post for this can be found here.

Well a couple years later and we now have an AMOLED display kit for the Game Boy Color and I can say without a doubt, that it is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST DISPLAY FOR THIS CONSOLE. It makes even IPS displays look bad by comparison. The colors are rich & vibrant and make the games looks absolutely beautiful!

Before I get ahead of myself the AMOLED Display Kit comes with every component you need to complete this mod. All you need from an original Game Boy Color is the motherboard. This makes the mod extremely easy to complete even for those who have never modified a console before.

The kit includes:
1 AMOLED Display
1 Driver board
1 Flex Display Cable
1 Wire
1 Precut Shell (Atomic Purple for my kit)
1 Set of buttons & rubber membranes
1 Game Boy Color Label
1 Triwing Screw Driver
1 philips Screw Driver
1 Full set of screws

The nice thing about this kit is that it comes with a shell that is designed to fit the AMOLED Display perfectly. You do not need to modify the shell. The kit does require SOLDERING though, you will have to solder a single wire between the driver board and Game Boy Color circuit board. On the driver board the wire needs to be soldered on the BAT terminal and then the other end of that wire needs to be soldered on pin C on the power switch of the Game Boy Color circuit board.

The finished Game Boy Color looks like this:

I tend to prefer the Atomic Purple color because I had one when I was younger.

The full video guide can be found below. The video shows step by step how to install an AMOLED Display in a Game Boy Color. Additionally I did a comparison between an IPS display and the AMOLED display.
