Today I have a console that was described as not working/won't power on. As it turns out sometimes consoles come with inaccurate information.

When I got the console plugged in and turned on I found out it does power and it does work. The problem with this console is a parental lock pass code and 2 Nintendo Network ID Accounts being locked on the console. Well this isn't necessarily a problem for someone who knows their way around the console.

So I immediately used UDPIH and booted into the recovery console. There it is the Parental Pin Code:

Now that I can access the console. I used the Parental Pin Code to gain access. Then I created myself a new account with no Nintendo Network ID association. The startup screen looks like this:

After that I went into the Wii U settings and went to "Delete All Content and Settings". After selecting this nintendo displays a bunch of information. The confusing part is that according to many posts online a factory reset will not remove accounts with Nintendo Network ID associated with them. I have found this is not true. The user accounts are removed. The Nintendo Network ID Accounts are still associated with the Wii U console and likely stored someplace and can be reconnected to a new user. Unfortunately the only way to remove these is to have the password and be able to login to the account. This wasn't an option since I do not have the passwords for these accounts. The important thing here is that the previous user accounts and data has been removed and this console can be used by someone else.

Another way of doing this is apparently calling Nintendo. There appears to be a backdoor built into the console to remove Nintendo Network Accounts. To access this backdoor you can do the following:

Select the user profile and when asked to enter the password select "I Forgot" in the top right hand corner you should see this screen:

Don't select yes or no. Instead hold + and - and Y buttons for a few seconds. Once you do this you will get the following screen:

This screen provides the information that the Nintendo Rep would request in order to remove the account from the console. You want to hold the same 3 buttons again for a few seconds and you will come to a screen asking for a 16 digit code. After you provide the information above to Nintendo, they will give you a 16 digit code to enter that will unlink the Nintendo Network ID from the user account, which then allows you to delete the user account from the system.

The good news is this console is fully working. As expected because its using a Toshiba eMMC:

After a factory reset, we have a single user account setup with no Nintendo Network ID Account:

This console came with Nintendo Land/Super Mario 3D World preinstalled. Even after a factory reset both games remained on the console, downloaded their updates and are fully functional!!
