Came across 3 consoles. Decided to purchase them all from GoodWill. They said they tested for power, but none of the consoles would display. I was hoping for more broken consoles that required a repair. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) all 3 consoles display just fine. My guess is they were never tested and they assumed they were not working. I decided to do a single topic covering all 3 of the consoles and I will separate them via posts.

The first console we have is a WUP-101(02) 32GB Samsung Manufactured 12/14/2013 using Firmware 5.5.3U. It does have the colored inputs on the back. Which indicates its an earlier production model.

Log files are attached. It would appear this console was factory reset before being donated to goodwill. I say that because it has a single log file and when you factory reset it deletes the log files and starts back at 1. Normally Wii U consoles create log files up to 99 and then wrap around and start overwriting older log files. Almost all the consoles (up to 15 Wii U now) I have seen with log files had 50+ log files. While many of the ones with defective eMMC had gone all the way to 99 and wrapped out.

Checked the MLC for errors and didn't find any. Being that this is a Samsung MLC I doubt there is anything wrong with it.

Further testing will need to be done to verify full functionality. Console does need a firmware update.

Update: 2/21/24 - Updated firmware on console. Has been tested and it is fully functional.

The second console we have is a WUP-101(02) 32GB Toshiba Manufactured 08/09/2013 using Firmware 5.5.2U. It does have the colored inputs on the back. Which indicates its an earlier production model.

Log files are attached. This console has Nintendo Network ID attached and Parental Control Lock enabled. Neither are a big deal to remove. I looked through the logs and didn't find any data corruption related to the MLC. What does show up is the following error:
00:00:09:385: FSA: ### DATA CORRUPTION ERROR ###, dev:odd04, err:-2949147, cmd:2, path:(null)
00:00:09:386: MCP: Titles scanned (dev_state 000e) on device /dev/odd04 (atfs) @ uptime 9.386 s

This error shows that there was corrupt data when reading a disc as it pertains to the disc drive. So it can be ignored. It isn't the MLC. I can test the disc drive later to verify its working. My understanding is you can get this error if the drive itself is malfunctioning or if the game disc is damaged.

Checked the MLC for errors and it has a single error. Not likely to be related to a failing MLC. Also worth mentioning is this console has nearly all the 32GB internal storage filled.

Further Testing will need to be done to verify full functionality. This console needs the parental lock removed and a factory reset as well as a firmware update. I will do that at a later time and post back with the results.

Update 2/22/24: Removed the parental controls, did a factory reset and have updated the firmware. Console has been fully tested and is fully functional. This console happens to be the Legend of Zelda The WindWaker HD Bundle. Game remains even after a factory reset. It can now go to a new home!

The third console we have is a WUP-101(02) 32GB Toshiba Manufactured 11/15/2014 using Firmware 5.5.3U. This Wii U also has colored inputs on the back.

Log files are attached. This console also has Nintendo Network ID attached and Parental Control Lock enabled. I looked through the logs and didn't find any data corruption related to the MLC. What does show up is a similar error related to the disc drive:
00:00:06:556: FSA: ### DATA CORRUPTION ERROR ###, dev:odd05, err:-2949147, cmd:2, path:(null)
00:00:06:557: MCP: Titles scanned (dev_state 000a) on device /dev/odd03 (atfs) @ uptime 6.557 s

I did check the MLC and this one has no errors. Not surprised considering its a Toshiba eMMC.

Console needs the parental control lock removed, a factory reset and a firmware update. Will do this at a later time and post back the results, although I don't expect any issues.

Update 2/21/24: Removed the parental controls, did a factory reset and have updated the firmware. Console has been fully tested and is fully functional. This console is a Super Mario 3D World Bundle. Game remains even after a factory reset. It can now go to a new home!
