I have another Wii U. I just can't stop finding these consoles. There are so many of them just lying around with the same problems. Seller of this unit told me the unit wouldn't update the firmware. After I got it on my bench I found out that was only one of the problems. This console also had parental control lock and Nintendo ID on it. If you have seen the other Wii U consoles I have worked on, then you probably came across the unit that was sold as broken but ended up just having a parental lock on it. You can find out more about that here in case you missed it. That being said neither of those 2 things matter, as they can be easily bypassed and removed from the console.

So we have an July 2013 manufacture date. This is using a Hynix chip, which was manufactured in January 2013 (Assuming I calculated it correctly from the CID). Console does have corrupt data, doesn't mean the eMMC is failing, but could be an indication.


I immediately used the recovery console to pull the parental lock code to get into the console and make an account I could use. As soon as I connected the console to the WiFi, it immediately tried to update and froze during the update. After power cycling the console I was able to get back into the Wii U menu, at which point I jumped the gun and did a factory reset before dumping the logs...oops  . I knew the factory reset would likely hang and that is exactly what happen. Not really a big deal, since it changes nothing for the repair of this console. In the future I will make sure to dump the logs before doing that. I like to have a record of them even if I don't necessarily need them for the repair.

As previously mentioned -30041 is a MEDIA ERROR and likely means the eMMC is failing. There is no reason to do further diagnostics. This console needs a NAND-AID.

Finally got a NAND-AID to install in this console. Will be doing that shortly and getting this console fixed.

The reason this console hasn't been fixed is because apparently there is some shortage of SD Cards where I live and I won't be able to get a 32GB card for this console until mid April. 

Finally after waiting nearly a month I was able to get a SD Card to fix this console. This will be the last Wii U console that I repair and then I will be moving on to other work for a while. I should probably move on and start repairing the Wii U game pads I have sitting around.
